Is Baklava Greek?

Baklava is a celebrated treasure in Greece and beyond but it is not “Greek” by origin. It originates in Central Asia and is embraced by many cultures in the region and beyond. It was brought to Greece by the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century and we both agree that it’s the best treat around!

Rich and flaky, it is made with layers of thin filo dough generously filled with chopped nuts, such as pistachios, walnuts, hazelnuts or almonds. Sweetened with honey or syrup and flavored with spices like cinnamon and nutmeg.
